I don’t know about you, but my email inbox gets full of email clutter! Every few months I go through all my regular subscriptions and unsubscribe from those that are of no interest anymore.
I try to keep my inbox email clutter under control, but when I opened my emails this morning I saw I had 548 emails in my inbox! And a lot of those are regular subscriptions that no longer interest me.
So I set out to unsubscribe to those I didn’t want to keep receiving and after around 60 minutes I got my inbox down from 548 to 277 emails! The number of subscriptions I cancelled was 36! Some of those were emails I was receiving EVERY DAY! That’s a lot of email clutter! A couple of subscriptions I modified so I was not getting every email they sent but only those that were relevant to me. Some I wasn’t sure about, so I kept them and will monitor them as they come in.
Email clutter or ‘it may come in handy one day’?
The truth is that when we want something we probably know where to go and who has what we’re looking for, or we just do a Google search for it, we don’t need to continue to get these emails every week, or even every day!
Let me ask you a question: Of all the emails you subscribe to, how many do you actually read?
My guess is not many or at least not all of them. And the strange thing is I bet if you unsubscribe from the ones you never read, and no longer hold your interest, you will actually read the ones that do matter to you, because you will not be overwhelmed with the volume you receive, you will only receive the ones that you really want to.
So, here’s your challenge for December – get rid of your inbox email clutter :
- Unsubscribe from all those subscriptions that you no longer want
- Make sure the ones you keep are where you’re at right now and that you really want to read them
- Keep doing this for every new email you receive and ask yourself this question: Is this email adding value to my life?
