Life Coaching is about personal transformation, and the butterfly is the perfect picture of what this transformation looks like. The butterfly didn’t start out life as a butterfly. It started as an earth-bound caterpillar. After a series of life events, the caterpillar goes into a secret place where it undergoes a metamorphosis – a dying of its old life and a re-birth to its new life… that of the butterfly, no longer earth-bound, but able to fly.
This is a beautiful picture of the spiritual transformation that a person experiences when they encounter Jesus Christ, and Christian life coaching brings that spiritual aspect of our lives into the coaching process.
Romans 12:2 says, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” The Greek word here for “transformed” is “metamorphoo”, which is to change, transfigure, transform, and we are most familiar with this word in the life cycle of a caterpillar to a butterfly. The Greek word here for “renewing” is “anakainosis” which means renovation, renewing, a renewal, renovation, complete change for the better. When we renew our minds to think about ourselves the way God sees us, we live from our true self, confident and free. My role as a life coach is to help you see how God sees you, to change how you think about yourself to align your mind to how He thinks about you, to find your identity in Him, and then to discover the unique plan He has for your life.
The Life Coaching Relationship
The life coaching relationship is very much like the cocoon, or the secret place, its where real and lasting transformation takes place. In this secret place we look at things like identity, purpose and destiny. The way God sees us.
As a Certified Professional Life Coach (trained with International Coach Academy), and a Life Breakthrough Coach (trained with Life Breakthrough Academy), I bring the spiritual part of you into focus, so you can live your best life, the one you were created to live. Just like our physical DNA which makes up who we are, we have a spiritual DNA that contains our life purpose and destiny. Its what God spoke into you when He created you. I believe I can help you unlock that purpose and set you on the road to lasting transformation, to fulfilling your destiny, the reason you were born and the reason you are here right now, today, on this planet, at this time. One of my favourite Bible characters is Esther, and one of my favourite scriptures is when her uncle Mordecai said to her, “Who knows but that you were born for such a time as this.”
Nelson Mandela read this at his inauguration in 1994 :
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking, so that other person won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us. It is not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And, as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
I don’t know about you, but that stirs me. It stirs me to rise up and be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous! If that’s how the Lord sees me, that’s how I want to be. What about you?
