What do you do with those flat spaces?

We all have them! They are the flat spaces, or landing strips, in our homes where clutter gathers. And when it starts there seems to be a dynamic that clutter has to have company! If we don’t take control over those flat spaces, they will disappear under a pile, or piles, of stuff! And before long we can’t use those flat spaces because we cannot even see them!

Let’s look at a list of flat spaces where things can land in my home… and do!

  • Bench tops
  • Kitchen and Dining tables
  • Corner tables
  • Coffee tables
  • Bedside tables
  • Bathroom counters
  • Desks
  • Floors
  • Beds
  • Chairs and Sofa’s
  • Cabinets
  • TV tables
  • Bookshelves
  • Wall units
  • On top of the fridge or freezer or washing machine.

How many times have I wanted to sit down for a meal with the family, but either have to move a ton of things off the table, or if that’s too much trouble, eat on the sofa? Lots of times!

And then I’ve even had to move things off the sofa so I can sit down to watch television or entertain my friends… embarrassing!

I get so frustrated because I cannot find something that I  know I put on the coffee table, but there’s so much other stuff there now, that I cannot find it.

I am a bit of a neat freak, I love tidy, and I do not love clutter! But I still need to declutter regularly. And it’s better that way, to do a little bit each day, than wait until the Himalayan Mountains of ‘stuff’ is before me!  So I’m going to start 2017 off right and add a few minutes of decluttering to my daily routine, starting today!
